Technology in the Classroom

Technology has changed teachers and students role in the classroom. Teachers are no longer the center of attention, but students rely on technology to facilitate the information they need to learn. Some teachers feel that the push to use technology in the classroom focus too much on mastering new technology and making students excited about learning and not enough on their actual test performance. Is technology in the classroom the key to educating our students?

Technology outside the Classroom?

A dean at a university deceided that technology was a hindered to his students learning process, so he took technology out of his classroom. He is quoted as stating that " Technology has a place in education, but it should be used independently by students outside the classroom. That gives them more time to absorb lectures via podcast or video, and frees teachers to spend class time coaching students in how to apply the material rather than simply absorb it."

This is the dean view on technology. My question is what are the students views on not using technology in the classroom.

There is a question about too much, but if we don't use technology in the classroom we will lose the students'interest. It is by using the same tools they use that we "speak their language".

I think it would seem archaic to them. They are so used to technology in every aspect of their life. They would naturally expect to see it in their classroom.

Robby, I think it is good sometimes to allow students to learn how to complete a task without technology, but to deny technology totally in not practicable in today's world.
